The Calling – First Responders Series

OnStar Advisors work with First Responders to save lives every day. But who are these heroes and what drives some of them to work 24-hour shifts doing some of the most dangerous — yet rewarding — jobs in the world? Go behind the scenes and learn how firefighters work with dispatchers and OnStar as a courageous, selfless, and tactical team.

Captain, Dan Dumas

A fire station crew is only as good as its captain. Meet Captain Dan Dumas and learn what It takes to keep his fire station running smoothly. See how these dedicated firefighters and paramedics are ready for whatever each day brings. They place their fate in each other's hands and sacrifice their safety for the greater good.

Driver Engineer, Ryan Gross

After OnStar pinpoints the location of a vehicle in an emergency, it's up to veteran driver and fire-truck engineer Ryan Gross to get to the scene as quickly - and safely - as possible. The more information he has, the better he can do his job and help save lives. Ryan says the keys to the truck come with great responsibility - and soon, they'll be handed over. He's not just leaving a job - he's leaving a family.

Rookie, CJ Waldren

There's no such thing as a typical rookie, except for a naturally courageous disposition and innate urge to help those in need. It also takes a heavy dose of humility. From washing trucks to cooking meals, the only way to earn the trust of your crew is to keep your head down and work as hard you can. And after that first year, no matter what happens, they'll always have your back.

Dispatcher, Shelly Metikosh

From fender benders to more serious emergencies, OnStar Advisors are often the first link in the chain of communication for first responders. They're highly skilled, trained in the same vocabulary and protocols as their counterpart emergency dispatchers. The information exchange that occurs between the two is vital. Listen as two veteran dispatchers talk about this important collaboration.

Value Transcending Budgets

Time and budget are always key challenges. For this project we planned to shoot enough video in a day for four long form videos plus four short teasers for social. We also needed still photography but the tight budget wouldn’t allow for it. I brought my own camera gear and we used my photos (below) for for the web experience, social posts and print ads.
